All the Champagne Stays Corked

Thoughts come crashing

And bashing

Thrashing while I’m cashing

Checks made out to love

That just keep bouncing

Around my head like a cartoon dove.

That dove flies away

To sit and pray

That today will be the day

He can switch from white to grey

But God writes back

Hey,

What can I say

Let’s get coffee Tuesday

In other words

Find your own way

The way turned into a fork

That mistook the dove for a stork

Now babies fill abduction reports

And all the champagne stays corked.

Behind the corks in my eyes

My tears come out all dry

They couldn’t buy a goodbye

From a pie in the sky.

Tears taste better with age

But if they fall on the page

They will show you the stage

Is just a well painted cage.
