Bonfire

Loaves of pine

Crumble to bark crumbs

Blazing honeycomb coals

Hold the sound of fire licked bees tongues

They’re in there

In the holes

Where firelight lives

Ember fairies

But I know the night wants them back

They are pods of starlight

Soon to be

Embers kicked from the nest

Learning to fly

Take me with you

If only to fly a minute

After

I'll settle to be ash on the ground

Remembering my dance through the dark

From orange flame

Shedding darkness

To grey dirt

Looking up at the stars
